Getting away

We decided that we needed a mini getaway. We decided to stay near the house but also try a new area that we had never visited. We went to Angles Camp. We Stayed at a resort and loved it. They were equipped with pools, tennis courts, children's play area(both indoor and out). They also had an arcade room, and a rec room with a pool table and Foosball table. The rooms had a full kitchen and a grill. To say the least I was pleasantly surprised. Angels camp was a town that rose from the gold mining times. It is nestled in the mountains and only took an hour and fifteen minutes to get to.
When we arrived in the area, we check into our room and then went the Nearby City of Murphy's. They were having a Holiday Open House. We missed the parade all together, but enjoyed walking the streets of the city and shopping at the shops. Many of the buildings were originally to the location and had lots of charm and character. The local hall had a location to take pictures with Santa and some of the local children were participating in a recital. Outside Christmas Carolers were singing some of the seasons most beautiful songs.
We then went back and I cooked us dinner and we watched a Christmas movie. On Saturday morning we went to Breakfast and Main Street Cafe. They had great food, we watched the parade from the restaurant and again from the car. We then made our way up to Columbia and went to Columbia State Park. Columbia is yet another Gold Rush town, The Gold Rush to Columbia, California began on March 27, 1850 by a small party of prospectors. News of the discovery spread and they were soon joined by a flood of miners.
Unlike many settlements that have changed with the times, Columbia, California seems to be frozen in the 1800's. Today, Columbia State Historic Park is the best preserved of California gold rush towns.
Everyone in the town was dressed in period clothing and we enjoyed the scenery. Marco went panning for gold, and we were going to go on a carriage ride, but Liliana didn't like the idea.
Next time we visit we plan on visiting the moaning caverns and visit Calavares County Big Trees park. We may not be returning this winter as the road to get their is very curvy and with snow that would not be a lot of fun! Here are pictures from the weekend.
